Hello!!! Welcome to FIRST GRADE!  My name is Jennifer Wells, and I am very excited for this new school year!!! I cannot wait to get to know each child and excited to see how far this year will take us!

We have an exciting year planned for your children.  We will be using the 7 Habits of Happy Kids as they continue to grow to be the best scholars they can be!  We will focus intensely on developing the reading, writing, and math skills, which are the core of all future educational development.  Your child will also learn what school is all about.  They will understand what appropriate behavior for the classroom is, how to treat their classmates with courtesy and respect, and how to complete the tasks that are their responsibility.

Most of all, we will have fun!  Here at Topaz, we provide a rich learning environment that keeps children interested.  We want them to come to school with excitement to learn what is next.  We recognize that each child is an individual with different learning strengths and interests.  We teach the lessons with varied strategies to keep your child at a high interest level and able to graphs the concepts in the manner most natural to them.

Your support is vitally important.  When we work as a team, the success of your child is assured.  I will keep you informed of your child’s progress and development.  You can contact me through the school office at (760) 244-4622.  I ask that you keep me abreast of events in your child’s life that could change how they are able to handle and adjust to school.  I will maintain a positive atmosphere for learning and treat my students with respect.  I will be available and approachable to my students and to you, their parents.

In addition, I find it very important that the students get to know their teacher, their classmates, and the routines during the first weeks of school.  With this, for the first day of school, parents are welcome to stay for a few minutes to settle their child in.  After that, I ask that parents drop their child off at the door to allow their child to become accustomed to routines in the classroom.

I consider it a great privilege and responsibility to be your child’s teacher and look forward to an exciting year of discovery.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Wells
